Congratulations To The Winners Of The Caribbean Life News Healthcare Award

Recently, SelectCare New York City was pleased to announce that 33 of our home health care field staff members were nominated to receive Caribbean Life News Healthcare Awards. With one third of our staff with Caribbean roots, we felt that any of them were deserving of commendation for their commitment to patient care. Now, we are pleased to announce that two of our employees, Jennifer Morris and Sandra Ann Aberdeen, received this award.

Congratulations, Sandra Ann Aberdeen

Sandra Ann Aberdeen, an immigrant from Grenada and a SelectCare Home Health Aide for four years, is unwavering in her responsibilities to patients. She loves her job, which puts her in touch with so many patients who need someone willing to go the extra mile for them. As she puts it, “Meeting and working with people who really need me makes me feel that I am contributing something good in this world. Helping people has always been my calling and home care fit in my life.”

Sandra is currently part of the team who cares for a man with a rare progressive neurological disease, a position that requires just the combination of skills that Ms. Aberdeen has. The family praises her highly stating that she has been “very attentive to his needs – always patient, caring, cheerful, witty, and pleasant to have around.”

Congratulations, Jennifer Morris

The other award recipient, Jennifer Morris, has worked with the company for seven years. She sees a clear mission in working with clients: “For me, the biggest challenge in healthcare is finding a balance between supporting my clients’ independence and dignity while guiding them toward safe and healthy decisions.”

Ms. Morris, originally from Barbados, always wanted to be part of a helping profession. “Helping others has always been a part of my life, especially those who are vulnerable and need care the most, such as the elderly and children.”

Forty-eight (48) health care professionals of Caribbean decent received the Caribbean Life Health Care Awards. Doctors, nurses, dentists, social workers were among the awardees. Sandra and Jennifer were the only home health aides to receive the award for outstanding contribution to their clients and the health care industry. Four nurse army reservists, three lieutenant colonels and one colonel were included in the recipient awards.  Honorable Omya David, chair of the CARICOM Consular Corps, representing thirteen Caribbean Communities, gave the keynote address. After offering congratulations she added, “I believe that these forty eight found their calling and life’s purpose in their respective healthcare profession.”
