In view of recent storms like Hurricanes Sandy and Irene, the NYC Office of Emergency Management (OEM) or the Department of Health may issue warnings and even evacuation orders when potentially damaging storms are expected. The City advises residents to “Know Your Zone” so that you know what to do in case of emergency.
If you are a senior with limited mobility or have special needs, it may be hard to act on the information if a storm hits.
